Charlotte A Home for the History Buff

If you are a fan of history you will find Charlotte NC tremendously interesting because so many of the homes and buildings have foundations in the early 1900’s. Several of the neighborhoods are filled with houses—mansions really—that were constructed over a hundred years ago and have been declared historical sites and preserved in their original state. You may not be able to buy one of these homes, but you may find interest in the homes for sale around them. Meyers Park is one of the oldest parts of Charlotte and is a great location to find many of the most historic homes in the area. This area was designed in 1911 by John Nolen with the initial intention of being a suburb run primarily by electric trolley.
One particularly interesting tidbit you may find about Meyers Park is its strange design. The roads appear to curve and wind as if they are not on any particular plan. As a matter of fact that is exactly what happened. Mr. Nolan did away with the traditional design of suburbs on a grid and allowed the roads to conform to the natural shape of the land.

Of course, you may need to save your pennies for a while unless you are independently wealthy. If so, good for you, because this neighborhood of Charlotte boasts some of the most expensive private residences available in the local market. A modest two bedroom, two and a half bathroom 1,919 square foot cottage lists for around $700,000. Currently one of the most expensive homes on the market in Myers Park and possibly in Charlotte at all is a five
bedroom, seven bathroom home with over 8,000 square feet of living space. At that price you could get a few friends to move in with you and share the mortgage.

It gets this name from a women’s college, Elizabeth College, which was once where the Presbyterian Hospital is now. A popular feature of Elizabeth is its trees which shade most of the neighborhood like a tent. Being nearly 100 years old, the trees have matured and grown to envelope the surrounding buildings and homes. These make for breathtaking pictures, particularly in the fall, and add an element of historical mystery to its 100 year old homes. Currently there are few homes actually on the market in Elizabeth (zip - 28204), a fact which is constantly changing. However, you should expect to find a small, three bedroom home with 1,000 to 1,500 square feet to be listed for about $350,000.

Charlotte in and of itself is a city draped in history. From its roots as an industrial textile hub to the cultural epicenter that now occupies the buildings where textile mills used to be, the history and culture is all around you. Any “History Buff” would find plenty to keep the mind occupied in Charlotte no matter what neighborhood you choose to live in. One of the best part about the numerous areas is that they are all in close proximity to each other so you can be sure to enjoy all that Charlotte has to offer from any location.
