Indian Trail, NC - Cleaning up it's act!

It appears the town of Indian Trail, NC of Union County is cleaning up it's act!  The town has issued housing standard ordinance, that will rid the town of run down homes!  Previously it could only enforce regulations based on sanitation and health violations.  The new ordinance deals with two types of violations, deteriorating and dilapidated homes.  The difference is a deteriorating home is defined as a dwelling deemed unfit for habitation that can be repaired for no more than 50% of it's value.  A dilapidated home is defined the same, except less than 50% of it's value!

 Whats nice about this, is the town has the authority to hire a contractor and bring it up to code.  The payment will be recieved as a lien on the home, plus a $100 fine.  Not too sure what a $100 fine would do, unless it is per day of re-construction.  THIS IS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, no grandfathering!

This ordinance has set standards for plumbing, electrical,  HVAC.  There is also a safety and sanitation guidelines portion that addresses cracked or damaged roofs, walls, foundations and overall structure.

As the mayor, has stated this will go along way to improving the area.  Don't think just your complaint will fix the problem though.  It will require a minimum of 5 complaints from 5 different citizens or a public official or town inspector.

Indian Trail beefs up police presence! 

The town council has also voted 3-2, to not start their own police force till at least 2013, but to bring the total deputies to a total of 13.  It all comes down to spending dollars wisely.  It would cost millions to start a police force, it really is better to utilize the Sheriffs Department in the mean time.
