When most people hear the word Pittsburg they immediately think of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Though this is the common thought, there is another town by the name of Pittsburg that is popular and gaining popularity all the time. Pittsburg, California is a city that is located in the north central region of Contra Costa County, California. The city was founded way back in 1839 and has had a wide variety of names before the citizens of the city finally decided in 1911 that the name would be Pittsburg in honor of the more well known Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.test

Pittsburg California began as a river port as the original town site is located on the San Joaquin River Delta. Of course, as the city grew it grew more inland and to the south, and has continued to spread to both the east and the west along California State Route 4. The California State Route 4 is a highway that is convenient for commuters that work in the San Francisco Bay Area but want to live outside of the busy city life. As of the 2000 census, Pittsburg California had not quite 57,000 residents, making it a great location to raise a family, enjoy safe neighborhoods, and be a reasonable distance away from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area. Because of the great location, real estate in the Pittsburg area is a hot commodity and it is likely that the city will continue to grow as more and more people look to live outside of the busier areas and find more family oriented places to live.
 
Pittsburg, California is also the location of the Los Medanos College, which is a two-year community college. While the college is relatively small, it attracts students in and around the area, so apartments and student housing are quite abundant in the area for obvious reasons. Because the city isn’t all that big, there are not any run down areas of town, making the town not only safe and family oriented, but also cosmetically appealing to any resident, new or old. Town homes, apartments, and duplexes are big attractions for college students as they can usually be rented at an affordable rate, but they also allow the students to have a nice place to live while they go to school and finish their education.
 
Although the college is there, this is by no means a college town. In Pittsburg you’ll find a wide variety of homes and real estate. There are those that come to the Pittsburg area to have more land on which to keep their horses and other animals. For these people it is essential that they have more land, and a nice place to raise their animals. Just ten or twenty years ago people began buying bigger plots of land in and around Pittsburg for just this reason. They were thinking ahead, and it’s a good thing they were!
 
 
One of the things that brings many people to the Pittsburg area to live is the historic home. As was mentioned, the city of Pittsburg was founded in the 1800’s, a time when the founders of this then small town began building homes, some of which still stand today. While many people want brand new, contemporary real estate, others are seeking historic homes that can bring a bit of warmth and charm to the house that they call home. The historic homes don’t go up for sale all that often because those that owe them know what gems that have in these homes, but when they do there is not a lack of interested in these old, beautiful, and typically well kept homes.
 
While there are historic homes, there are homes of all other ages in the area, as well. Because Pittsburg continues to grow as those who work in the Bay Area discover it, they continue to build new homes as well, too. You can find brand new houses as well as houses that were built 10, 20, 30, 50, or 100 years ago and everything in between. Just about anything you are looking for in terms of real estate can be found in Pittsburg. Homes big enough for a family, or small, simple homes for the single individuals can be found in the area.
 
 
Obviously, as the area continues to grow the price of real estate goes up. While the prices are on the rise, it is generally more affordable than if you look for a home of any sort in the Bay Area. Apartments, condominiums, town homes, large homes, small homes, you name it, can be found or built in and around Pittsburg. The great thing about this is that you can buy a home now for a more affordable rate than you might think in Pittsburg, but because the area is popular, your home will continue to appreciate and you will be able to sell it in the future for far more than you bought it more, meaning it is a wise investment to buy a home in Pittsburg, California. It’s not that buying a home right in the Bay Area where you may work isn’t a good idea, but if you are tired of the city life and you want to move away from the hustle and bustle in the Bay Area, Pittsburg is the perfect solution.
 
Though the city of Pittsburg is quite old, the city offers everything modern that one would need. Shopping, restaurants, medical care, and everything else you could want or need is right in or around Pittsburg, meaning you don’t have to give up the convenience of living in the Bay Area to live in the Pittsburg area. Also, even if you have a doctor that you can’t give up in the Bay Area, you can still go there, as it is just a short commute into the Bay Area. As you can see, living in the Pittsburg area is just a great idea, as the town has old roots but has all the modern offerings we could ever need, and then some!
