Divine Intervention - The Passion of St. Joseph

With inventory high and housing prices low, it’s nearly impossible to sell a home in some markets these days. So it should come as no surprise that many people are looking for a little divine intervention. Thus, St. Joseph is seeing an increase in popularity among many people trying to sell their home.
Some sellers firmly believe that burying a statue of Joseph, the patron saint of workers, in the yard of your home can help bring in more buyers. There are some arguments over how he should be buried. Some say he should be buried upside down. Others say he should be buried facing away from the house to denote “leaving”. For some, he should reside in the back yard and for others in the front. And what about those trying to sell a condo or townhome? Well in that case it is suggested that he be buried in a pot of soil.
St. Joseph has become so popular that there are many websites out there selling St. Joseph burying “kits”, which include the statue and detailed instructions on where and how it should be buried. It may seem a little silly and strange, but many people swear by it and I’ve personally seen a few interesting coincidences associated with sellers. Perhaps St. Joseph really does help sell houses, or perhaps it’s simply that a little faith and positive thinking can go a long way.
Either way, is St. Joseph enough to save our housing market? Let’s put it this way, some of those websites have now started selling kits for another saint – St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes. If that’s a divine sign, it’s a little disconcerting.
