Trip Down Memory Lane
Posted Jun 3, 2007 @ 8:09 pm, Viewed by 331 Visitors, Read 332 Times. If you got a letter in the mail from a complete stranger asking you if they could bring their Mom over to see their house would you say okay? What if they went on to explain that 35 years ago they sold that home but grew up in the house and that their mom was born there and lived in the home most of her life? Would you start warming up to the idea? How about if they also told you that the mom has alzhemier's disease and her memory is failing and a quick visit to the home would mean a lot to her?
This is the letter I sent out today. We are going to Buffalo this summer for a visit to see our Mom. Everytime we go up there, we take a drive past the old neighborhood and the old house that we all grew up in. It looks so small to us, not how we remember it at all. But it was home for us and even more so for my Mom who is 83 years old. It was the house my grandparents bought when they moved to the United States from Italy. There's a lot of memories in that house. I am hoping to get a positive response.
What would you say if you got a letter like that in the mail today?

I do hope you get a positive response though!!!
Thanks, we are hoping for a positive response as well. I sent them my full contact information as well as my mom's, hoping that they possibly could validate it before responding. The home is not in a very nice neighborhood any more, so I hesitate to just knock on the door unannouced. I'm not sure what I might see on the other side of the door.
I would like to talk to them first as well.
It is really odd, but we got something similar. A older couple drove by in a nice but not to expensive sedan, they were both about 45 - 50 years old. They explained that they were in town for Mom, and wondered if they could bring here buy to see the house one last time. I thought about it and decided that it would not hurt. They never did come though. That was last year, we have since sold the house and moved. Jim
Well, even though we got no response to our letter, we were successful getting in to see the house. As it turns out, it's always "who you know" and someone we knew knew them so it all worked out. It was a fun day and I look lots of pictures. My mom was thrilled to go through the home and even though it looked really bad, it looked great to her! She kept saying how much she loved the old house.

Unfortunately, many people in todays society have become quite paranoid with all the sob stories that are used to ultimately con people. I do not know how I would respond to be quite honest with you. I hate to say it, but I would be leary.. :>(
