The site that is now Baldwin Park has a long and proud history of The United States Military service. From 1940 throughout World War II and until 1968, the site was an Army Air Corps and Air Force base. In 1968, that base became the Orlando Naval Training Center (ONTC), sort of a college campus for sailors. Over 650,000 naval recruits received basic training here before the ONTC was closed in 1999. Lake Baldwin and Baldwin Park take their names from former Under Secretary of the Navy, Robert H. B. Baldwin. Lakefront land has been donated for a commemorative Veterans Park planned for the northern shore of Lake Baldwin.
An Ideal Location
A little over two miles from downtown Orlando, Baldwin Park enjoys an exceptionally convenient location to the city’s workplaces, restaurants, cultural attractions, and entertainment and sports venues. When you live in Baldwin Park, you live in one of the few Orlando communities where you can dine out, attend a ballet, play, concert, or Magic basketball game and be home in minutes. If you work in Orlando, your commute will take minutes out of your day, not hours. Orlando International Airport is only eight miles away for convenient traveling, and Interstate 4, the East-West Expressway (408) and the Greenway (417) are easily accessible. Baldwin Park is the perfect location for today’s active lifestyle.

The Audubon Society is helping guide environmental conservation and wetlands restoration efforts. To restore lakes to a natural pristine condition, edge plantings have been introduced.
