Nova Scotia, Canada's second smallest province, encompasses about 21,000 square miles and is almost an island. It is connected to the remainder of the country only by the Isthmus of Chignecto. Situated  on the southeastern  coast  of Canada halfway between the Equator and the North Pole Nova Scotia enjoys a moderate climate with milder winters than most of Canada due to the effects of the Gulf Stream. Summers are cooler along the coast and warmer inland.  Nova Scotia has over 7000 kilometers of coastline ranging from spectacular beaches to rugged cliffs.
