Beautiful Cherokee County sits approximately 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta, and is nestled in to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. "Where Metro Meets the Mountains" is the fitting slogan of this growing county. Canton is the County Seat, and other cities include Woodstock, Holly Springs, Ball Ground, and Waleska. Easily accessed by a combination I-575, Hwy 92, GA 140 and GA Hwy 20, this picturesque part of Metro Atlanta is becoming "Home" to more and more people.
It's easy to see why people are flocking to Cherokee County. Reasonable housing prices, lots of new construction, low property taxes, and low crime rate only a few of the reasons people are heading north. Another great reason to consider Cherokee County is their strong school system.
There are currently 36 schools throughout Cherokee County, with the addition of 1 new elementary school opening in fall of 2007, and 3 more elementary schools planned to open in 2008. Cherokee County scores well above the nation's average for SAT scores (30 points), and additionally scores 61 points higher than the state average. Cherokee County is also home to Reinhardt College, and a branch of Appalachian Technical College. The idea in Cherokee County is that you never have to cross the county line to receive your primary and high school education, and consecutively your higher education. Not very many counties can say that!
Live, work, play...a very easy thing to do as a Cherokee County resident! Between Riverstone Parkway and Hwy 92, you can find just about anything you need in terms of shopping and dining. A new development currently under construction between GA 140 and Hwy 20 in Canton will bring an exciting new mix of shops and restaurants, similar to what's found on Hwy 92 in Woodstock. The Ridgewalk development in Woodstock promises a replica of the ever-so-popular "Avenues" open-air shopping mall that has done incredibly well in East & West Cobb. The Bluffs in Canton, also currently under construction, is a large technical park intermixed with commercial and residential space. Cherokee County residents are anxiously awaiting the completion of these developments. Here's hoping for a Target in Canton!!
Recreational activities can be found county-wide, with 28 parks, 6 championship golf courses, and beautiful Lake Allatoona. Hopgood Park in Towne Lake is a 60-acre park home to baseball fields, walking trails, a sand volleyball court, and is arguably the best park in the County. Not too many Saturday's pass when the park isn't filled with outdoor enthusiasts and ball games. The glistening waters of Lake Allatoona promise a fun-filled day of water sports or cruising around the lake. I always know spring is coming when you start to see the water rising when you cross the lake at Little River.
As you can see, Cherokee County offers a little bit of everything! Come to Cherokee County and find the right pace of life for your family. I know I have found mine!
