Atlanta 4th of July Festivities
Posted Jul 2, 2009 @ 10:56 am, Viewed by 715 Visitors, Read 759 Times.Looking for something to do this 4th of July in the Atlanta area? Well look no more, my friends. There is something going on in just about every part of town! Here are some of the highlights:
Probably the biggest event happening in Atlanta this 4th of July is going to be in Centennial Olympic Park. Hosted by 11 Alive and Q-100, this is an all day event suitable for the whole family! Daytime festivities include arts and crafts, face painting, lots of kids activities, and of course live music the whole day. The fireworks start after dark and they are sure to be spectacular! Get there early because there’s sure to be a crowd.
On the other side of Atlanta, Lenox Mall will be hosting their annual fireworks display – this is their 50th year celebrating the 4th of July. That’s quite a tradition! Also in Buckhead is the Buckhead Beach Party, being held both Saturday and Sunday. This 21-and-up party promises to be the best beach party Atlanta has seen! 50 tons of sand will be brought in for the beach, and free shuttles will take you to the Lenox Square firework display. Tickets are required at $10 a pop, but a Peachtree Road Race shirt will get you in for free!
Out in the ‘burbs there is plenty of action as well. Fireworks shows are being held in Alpharetta at Wills Park, and in Roswell at Roswell High School. Festivities at both places kick off at 5pm and include tons of activities and live music.
In Decatur, the July 4th Pied Piper Parade starts at 6pm from First Baptist of Decatur and concludes with a concert at 7pm followed by the fireworks at 9pm. Dunwoody is hosting their Red White and Dunwoody parade at 9:30am, followed by a day full of hot dogs, BBQ, kids activities and more!
Out in Woodstock, the Freedom Run is bright and early at 7:30am, followed by their annual parade and 4th of July fun…including a watermelon spitting contest!! Woodstock fireworks are off 92 behind Kohl’s and Target. The City of Canton will also be hosting their annual fireworks display, starting just after dark!
Kennesaw is the first city in Atlanta to celebrate July 4th – they are hosting their festivities on Friday night, July 3rd!! Live music at the train depot starts at 8pm, followed by (of course) fireworks! Marietta turns 175 this year and they are out to make their annual fireworks display their best yet. There will be a HUGE parade (including over 100 floats!) starting at 10am, followed by live music, tons of food, and their traditional fireworks start around 9:30pm.
Shew! I’m tired just thinking about all the fun about to happen this weekend!! These are just a FEW of the events being hosted around the city this 4th of July. I for one will be on Lake Allatoona enjoying the fireworks display hosted by the Allatoona Yacht Club. We went last year and it was amazing.
I wish all of you a Happy and Safe 4th of July! Take a moment and reflect how lucky we are to live in this incredible country, where we are FREE to do whatever we please. This truly is the best place in the world to live. Pray for those who protect us and keep our freedom intact. God Bless the USA!!!
