Ba Humbug for Dillon Beach Home Owner

Located just northwest of San Francisco in Marin County, Dillon Beach is a small beach-front town popular with vacationers and Bay Area homeowners looking for a second home on the Pacific Ocean. Many residents of this intimate, sea-side community are also members of the Dillon Beach Neighborhood Association.
According to the neighborhood CC&R's which have been in place for more than 20 years, homeowners are prohibited from utilizing exterior lighting unless the lighting is for safety or security. Translation: No holiday lights permitted on the exterior of homes in Dillon Beach.
Despite the long-standing neighborhood ban on exterior holiday lighting, one local household has recently defied the association rules and has (tastefully) hung holiday lighting on their property to celebrate the holiday season. The homeowners received a notice from the HOA that the lights are not permitted and should be removed to comply with the CC&Rs. The homeowners have refused and a few well-intentioned neighbors have hung lights on their home to show their support.
It should be interesting to see how this plays out given the conflict between well-intentioned residents and long-standing covenants, conditions and restrictions.
