International Baccalaureate Program for Marin County High School

Even with California’s down market, the real estate business remains relatively brisk in Marin County.  A comfortable climate, beautiful surroundings, great commuter options, and a wide selection of housing options all come into play; but one of the most significant factors is, quite simply, that Marin is family friendly.  There are lots of recreation opportunities, playgrounds, parks, and activities for the entire clan to enjoy.  More importantly, Marin County schools are great, and a good local school system is high on the priority list for any family looking to relocate.

One of the most exciting recent developments for Marin schools is that the Tamalpais Union High School District board of trustees has approved a proposal for Redwood High School (4 time California Distinguished School award-winner) to implement an International Baccalaureate program.  If accepted into the program, Redwood High School will be joining an exclusive roster of high schools, being one of only seven high schools in the Bay Area to offer this advanced program. Redwood High serves students from Larkspur, Kentfield, Ross, Corte Madera, Belvedere, Greenbrae, and Tiburon.

The International Baccalaureate is, as the name implies, an internationally standardized college prep program.  It offers an advanced curriculum in six “traditional” subject areas, including foreign language, math, and science. In addition, each student must complete a Theory of Knowledge course, participate in sports, creative pursuits, and community service, and is required to complete a research essay of 4000 words.

Excellent schools are part of what makes owning a home in Marin County a good investment.  We’ll be watching the progress as Redwood High School in Larkspur goes through the process of adding yet another level of excellence and opportunity for Marin County students.  Marin kids deserve the best, and thanks to the many great schools in Marin County, they get the best.
