Nakeel To Rival Emaar With Worlds Tallest Skyscraper?

The competition between developers across the Middle East is heating up as the announcements for new and taller skyscrapers to rival the Burj Dubai have appeared. There has long been speculation about Nakheel, one of the largest developers in the UAE, building a project that will top other leading Dubai developer Emaar. The Waterfront development, expected to be a huge new city of freehold residential and commercial projects, was predicted to be the key location for Nakheel’s iconic project.
The latest speculation is that Nakheel will be building a mile-high tower to beat the height of the Burj Dubai, the current tallest building in the world. At a height of 636 metres, the Burj is already taller than any other skyscraper, and while the final height is still a secret, it is expected to be over 800 metres when finished, thanks to new plans to make the building higher. The new Nakheel tower, which is said to be in final plans, has been predicted to be around 1.4 kilometres in height, although Nakheel has yet to confirm or deny that their new tower will be greater in height than any other piece of Dubai real estate.
Nakheel is recognised worldwide for innovative property projects, with a portfolio of projects worth $60 billion, and whether this latest development will become the tallest tower in the world or not, it will surely been an impressive design concept and another Dubai landmark. With Emaar branching out into global projects, Nakheel is using this opportunity to embark on new and exciting projects within the Emirate of Dubai, and the Palm Jebel Ali and The Waterfront will be the up and coming developments over the next several years.
Nakheel is not alone, however, in the speculation over new record-breaking towers. Kingdom Holding, a Saudi-based developer is also planning to build a 1600-metre tower in Jeddah, while Kuwait is also planning a kilometre high tower in City of Silk. For now, the Burj will hold onto the title for a few years, as any project that is in the pipeline will take at least 4-5 years to build, just as the Burj and other projects such as Dubai Sports City has done.
