The title of the world’s tallest building brings with it instant fame and world wide recognition, so it is little surprise that so many have been tempted to chase this mantle. But with the announcement of the Al Burj Dubai things certainly got a lot harder for anyone else planning on capturing the title of world’s tallest building. Whilst the exact final height has been a closely guarded secret developer Emaar has revealed it will be over 800 meters, and now rumors are circulating that 808 meters could be the final height. Whatever the case, since everything with the project got underway in 2004; things have not been the same for Dubai. Back in 2004 Dubai was looking for more ways in which to market itself to the world. The Palm Jumeirah certainly kicked things off in a big way, attracting attention from all corners of the globe, so Dubai real estate needed something that could even eclipse the luxury palm shaped island built out in the Arabian Gulf. Answer, the Burl Dubai!

Literally meaning ‘the Dubai tower’, The Burj Dubai started
construction on the 21st September 04, and has rapidly risen
upwards to dominate the Dubai properties skyline.
Costing somewhere in the region of USD 4 Billion, the tower has now
broken numerous records and landmarks during its construction, and
it still isn’t even finished yet! In February 07 The Burj overtook
the Sears Tower as the building with the most floors, and then in
July 07 it overtook what was then the tallest building in the
world, the Taipei 101. It then continued to break records, rising
above the 527 meter Sears Tower Antenna, and then the Ostankino
Tower in Moscow, before claiming the title of the world’s tallest
freestanding land structure by overcoming the CN Tower in
Toronto.

And the latest landmark to have fallen was that of tallest man made
structure ever built when the Burj reached 688 meters on the 1st of
September 08, beating the Warsaw Radio mast in Poland. These
records certainly prove the height and scale of the project, but
you can only begin to comprehending the true enormity of the tower
when looking at it in relation to other towers of the Dubai
skyline. It truly is on another level. However it has not all been
easy sailing for the project. In March 06 workers at the sight
rioted due to low pay, causing an estimated USD1 million in damage.
This plus construction delays have caused the project some bad PR,
but it would take a lot more to do any real damage to this
remarkable project. Final completion is now expected in December
09, and those lucky enough to have bought into the project will be
able to call a little bit of history
home.

Now the final cladding is being put in place on the tower it is
really starting to look an incredible sight I hope you enjoyed some
