Real Estate Agents In Metro Detroit Leaving The Business In Record Numbers
Posted Aug 21, 2008 @ 9:03 pm, Viewed by 403 Visitors, Read 440 Times.A recent article in the Detroit Free Press, written by Greta Guest talks about how the number of Michigan Real Estate agents dropped by 16.7%, and many big name franchises like Real Estate One and Century 21 closed many of their offices because business was so bad. Experts predict this will spread throughout the entire country soon as times get tough.
The article then goes on to talk about how because so many agents have left the business, the agents that have made it through these times are some of the most aggressive agents in the industry. In fact there is one agent in particular the article spotlights, and his name is MARK Z., a Top Real Estate Agent in Northville Michigan who works for Coldwell Banker who is having his best year ever selling a little over 60 homes so far this year in 2008.

There are probably twice as many real estate agents and mortgage brokers than what the industry needs. The real estate agents that jumped into the business because they didn't know what else to do as a career or part time job, have realized this year that they are in the wrong industry. Everyone is looking for someone who is still successful in this market. I have always believed that "Success Is Based On A History, Not A Promise"
When you are interviewing real estate agents for the job of selling your home make sure to ask them a few important questions to keep them on their toes.
- Ask if they are a full time real estate agent or do they have another job and do this part time.
- Ask them to show you a proven track record and how many homes they have sold this year
- Ask them how their numbers are compared to last year.
- Ask them how they have adapted to this type of market.
- Ask them what they are doing different to get homes sold.
- Ask them for some references. Ask them for their average days on market.
- Ask them for a list of addresses for the homes they have sold this year.
By the time you get done with your questions, they may realize they are not the right candidate for the job and decline the listing. Wouldn't you rather know up front you had the wrong agent, rather than 6 months into the contract and your house has depreciated another 10%.
