Back in 1999 I noticed an alarming trend in the sales industry, people started referring to themselves as "consultants" rather than "salespeople". When you got a business card from a telephone salesperson they were now a "communications & media consultant" and so on. I took time to ponder the motives for this about turn in job titles and came to the conclusion that this was definitely a morph of name only. Sales people had gotten such a bad rap in many sectors and therefore felt it necces... Read Full Post
The Spanish "Cajas" or savings banks are facing a call for both consolidation and greater transparency on their bad loan books. This could prove to be a real can of worms when some of the banks have to reveal their true debt to loan ratios and could end up damaging Spains financial credibility further. The banks are finding it harder and harder to obtain money for the European capital markets, meaning that they are having to approach the European Central Bank more and more regularly. The savi... The Spanish government has reduced the cost of purchasing property by implementing a 5% reduction on the fees levied by both the Notary and Registry. This, on the face of things, looks like a valid way of stimulating the housing market. You probably detect an air of scepticsm in my tone, well you would be right. Look at this example - if someone is buying a Costa Del Sol property with a value of €300,000 they will make a saving of, wait for it, €45! The Notaries are currently up in arms a... Read Full Post
There has been somewhat of a decline in enquiries over the last month for people looking to find Costa Del Sol property through our company website. I have spoken to several of my colleagues within the same industry, here in Marbella and they all agree that since Easter, fewer prospective purchasers have been registering their interest in buying. Up until that point, we all felt that there was a definite increase in activity, so now for things to have taken a step backwards we have analysed w... Read Full Post

Sean Connery, one of our finest actors has been called to Marbella to give evidence regarding a corruption case being investigated. Mr Connery who chose to live close to Puerto Banus years ago, sold the Casa Malibu property in 1998 for a reported $9,000,000. Surely that should be the end of it, as what people do after they have bought something should have nothing to do with the person selling. The problem is that after the sale, the land was re-zoned to facilitate the building of 72 luxury b... Read Full Post
Tinsa, one of Spain´s premier real estate valuation companies has released figures for March. There statistics reveal that prices are still dropping, but by less and less each month. From a years perspective from April to April Spanish property prices supposedly only fell by 4.6%, even showing an increase if you look at the stats on a month to month basis. The trend that the Tinsa figures demonstrate show that prices are officially stabilising and may even show increases by the end of the ye... Read Full Post
I had posted a new La Zagaleta property listing on my REW blog about a week ago and am really excited about the opportunities it will present a prospective owner. The house now has a total of 500m2 of useable internal space, the interesting thing is that there is another 900m2 of un-developed basement area that could give the property a total of 1400m2 of living space if converted. This puts this €3,500,000 property into a whole different bracket within the estate. The truly impressive thin... Read Full Post
The property market here on the Costa Del Sol, well more specifically Marbella is now showing more signs of life during the first quarter of 2010 than the last four years according to figures produced by the Tax Office. In fact the Mayoress for Marbella, Angeles Muñoz thinks that the town will be the first to emerge from the protracted, nasty recession the whole of Spain is experiencing. She has submitted some really ambitious plans that will help improve both domestic and international perc... Read Full Post
