Update on the New Memphis MLS System

I am fortunate enough to be a part of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors MLS Board. We have been testing and tweaking and evaluating a new Memphis Multiple Listing Service called MLXchange. I had no idea how antiquated our old system was until we started the initial testing phase some weeks ago. To put it in to perspective, think of it as replacing a computer that was built in 1990 with one that was built in the year 2002. The new MLS system is much closer to a Windows or Internet Explorer feel. Crisp, clean, easy to navigate once you get the feel for it, and easy access to an abundant of information.

It does have it's limitations, as any software program does, but over all it will be a great leap forward for both the Realtors and the public. Now, I may be a little bias here when I say this: In the short run it will hurt a few of us Realtors who have much superior IDX solutions  as compared to most Memphis area Realtors. It will allow more Realtors access to a superior IDX search capability than the inferior framed in option most are using now. In the long run however; it will benefit the public by giving them greater access to a friendlier and easier to use system for searching homes for sale.

The MLXchange will be up and running in full speed in a few weeks, with Realtors going through training classes as we speak. Time will only tell, but this should be a step in the right direction.

Ed - re: "In the long run however; it will benefit the public by giving them greater access to a friendlier and easier to use system for searching homes for sale." I'm confused ... . Unless YOU allow the general public access to your mlxchange account *which in my area is a serious breach of conduct*, I can't see how mlxchange is going have any impact on the public's ability to search for listings. MLXchange is all our board has used for the past 5(?) yrs. We've just upgraded to version 3, and have been plagued with trouble both uploading and displaying listing photos all week. The technical support they offer is poor, and it appears their latest version is still in BETA and we're doing the debugging for them.

Well maybe I should have clarified that. They will benefit because the Realtors will have a better framed in MLS search feature, that they in turn will be making available to the public. Right now the choices are a ridiculous frame in feature that is useless and very un-friendly for the user in my opinion or to have a custom IDX done. I chose to have a custom IDX done, but most won't spend the money or time to do so. In that case, they will now have a much better option for an MLS search feature on their site. We've been experiencing trouble with the change over as well, I was thinking it was because of the change over - it's a little concerning that it is through out the entire MLXchange. Before these recent problems, how do you feel about MLXchange?
