Top Retirement Cities Identified
Posted Mar 1, 2007 @ 9:53 pm, Viewed by 643 Visitors, Read 643 Times.Bizjournals.com, the Web site of American City Business Journals Inc., identified 100 cities nationwide where the number of residents over 65 has increased rapidly in the last five years. The business-newspaper chain compared 938 markets in eight statistical categories, to come up with a list that includes communities all over the country, from the beaches to the mountains and everywhere in between.
EIGHT (8) Tennessee markets made it into the top 100 list:
- Crossville, TN - 4th in the nation!
Sevierville, TN - 57th
La Follette, TN - 64th
Kingsport-Bristol area - 70th
Harriman, TN - 78th
Paris, TN - 80th
Morristown, TN - 84th
Greeneville, TN - 87th
A new report from the National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) 50+ Housing Council predicts that 40 percent of all households will be headed by someone 55 or older by 2012.
We're so fortunate that Tennessee continues to attract more and more retirees, contributing to our state's healthy real estate economy!

Not making the top 100 list were Collierville and Germantown Tennessee. However, I can attest that both have become popular for both families and the 50- something crowd looking for nice communities to transfer or retire to, and have a low cost of living.

Ha! We bought a lot in Morristown TN about two years ago. It's actually in Russellville. Turners Landing to be exact. Have you heard of it? We plan to build our vacation / retirement home on it within a few years. It's so beautiful. There's a lake view in front and the Smoky Mountains to one side and rolling bluffs to the back. We drive up there a couple times a year and just look at it. Tennessee has some incredible views.
