Posted Sep 26, 2008 @ 12:44 pm, Viewed by 454 Visitors, Read 511 Times. The National DNCL contains the names and numbers of consumers who do not want to receive unsolicited calls from telemarketers. Solicitation is the act of selling or promoting a product or service, or soliciting money by way of telephone, cell phone, or fax etc. Telemarketers will not be permitted to call any of the numbers on the National DNCL unless they already have an existing business relationship with the consumer or individual.
Consumers can register up to three different telephone numbers on the list free of charge. Your list of numbers must be renewed every three years. The telemarketers will have to subscribe to receive the list and pay a subscription fee. Penalties are in place for telemarketers who break the DNCL rules. The maximum fine for an individual violation is $1500 and $15,000 for corporations.
Consumers will be able to sign up for the National DNCL after September 30th, 2008 by telephone (1-866-580-3625), fax, or email. For more information, instructions or contact information, go to www.LNNTE-DNCL.gc.ca.

Hey Michael, I still get telemarketing calls from our DNC list but I just switched from AT&T to a VOIP provider called PhonePower. It allows us to choose who we want to block calls from so all those 800# telemarketers get put on my blocked list and supposedly they get a busy signal every time they call. It's finally cutting down a lot of these calls.

I HOPE, HOPE, HOPE the DNCL makes a difference
I have heard tho that the list of telemarketers who are EXEMPT is quite something
Since I decided to go with a brand-new phone number after switching to Shaw (cable provider) from Telus (telephone provider) last October, I rarely get any telemarketers calling, my phone number doesn't seem to be "out there" on all the auto-dialing softwares yet
On a not-so-much-lighter note...I have always found it intriguing that a company like Telus receives revenue from both sides of a similiar situation, such as a customer paying for the service to have their number blocked, and then another customer is also paying Telus for the service to not receive calls from those who have their number blocked, nice cash grab!
I know that the telemarketers are just doing their jobs, but sheesh, I think it's about time that WE have more control over OUR phones that WE are paying big bucks for insofar as service plans!!!
I'm off my soapbox now...
