A dinner cruise on the Star of Honolulu

Star of Honolulu docked at Aloha Tower

We were invited on a dinner cruise with several real estate customers recently.  This was our first time on the Star of Honolulu and we were ready to enjoy the sights, sounds and good food.

The cruise starts and ends at Aloha Tower.  The ship departs at 5:30 p.m. and returns around 8:00 p.m.  Guests check in around 4:30 p.m. and either shop at the Aloha Tower Marketplace or go right on board the ship to have a drink and relax.

We chose the Polynesian Sunset dinner, featuring a Mai Tai starter drink, salad and a great Mahimahi dinner.  I normally do not care for Mahimahi because it tastes a little too "fishy" for me.  This dinner was well prepared and tasted great.  It's probably the first time I ever finished the entire Mahimahi.  Dessert was macadamia nut ice cream, which was very tasty.

The ship has four levels of dining area and shows.  Guests are allowed to walk about the decks, although they must stick to the floor they are assigned for dining.  Each level features a different dinner - the higher the floor, the more expensive the food.

The entertainment is very good.  The musicians play a wide variety of local and top 40 songs.  Towards the end of the cruise, dancers come out and perform Tahitian hula, Hawaiian hula and some other dances that the guests really enjoy.

Views of Honolulu

The top deck of the Star of Honolulu has an open area for guests to walk around and take pictures.  The Honolulu shoreline is beautiful as the sun sets and makes for great pictures.  In the photo below, Diamond Head towers over the Pacific Ocean and a passing catamaran featuring its own dinner cruise.

We had a great time on the Star of Honolulu and we think you will too. For reservations, visit the Star of Honolulu website or call (808) 983-7827.
