Are you into Hawaii Nostalgia? I love it.
I've had an interest in World War II airplanes since I was a young kid. There's a great website prepared by the Hawaii Aviation Preservation Society that has lots of photos of vintage airplanes, long forgotten airfields and famous landmarks such as Diamond Head. If you're into vintage propeller-driven airplanes, you will love this website.
A favorite TV show about the 50th State is Hawaii Five-0. When I was a kid, I was not much interested in this show. Now, decades later I love to watch it. Why the change? Because Hawaii Five-0 was filmed all across Oahu and sometimes on the neighbor islands. I think it's so cool to see McGarrett drive down the street, past a building (40 years ago) that is still standing today.
Want an example? Here's a shot from a 1973 episode of the show. The model in the foreground is the Pacific Tower, located at the corner of Alakea and King Streets in downtown Honolulu.

Note there are two buildings - Pacific Tower and the parking structure. Anybody that works in downtown Honolulu knows that the Pauahi Tower is located on the same parcel and would be just behind the parking structure in this picture. At the time of the TV show filming, Pauahi Tower was not built.
Another interesting thing. Note at the top of Pacific Tower there are little "wings" coming off the sides. The penthouse floor of the building has outdoor lanais and the wings were like sunshades for those areas. In the 1990's the wings were removed, apparently in the interest of public safety, in case the concrete weakened.
The Hawaiian Days website features vintage posters and offers them for sale.
Moving up a couple of decades, remember Frank Zappa's hit song, "Valley Girls?" In the early 1980's a group named "The Mokettes" made a song called Palolo Valley Girls - a local style, pidgin-English version of Valley Girls. It's pretty funny - for example, the girls thought S&M meant "surfing and making out." You can listen to the song on the link above.
I find that song particularly interesting since decades later, I find myself living in Palolo Valley.
The Hawaii Highways website has pictures of the Hana Highway, H-3, H-1 and links to other websites with Hawaii roads.
