Lifetime licenses for Arizona real estate agents?

I stumbled across a reporter's blog entry while reading up on the article about requiring Arizona loan officers to be licensed (from this blog) and look what I found!

Sam Wercinski, the relatively new commissioner of the Arizona Department of Real Estate, has formed four groups to look to issues affecting licensees. One group is looking at the possibility of a lifetime license for real estate agents.
In the midst of the mortgage and real estate fraud problem in Arizona, several real estate agents have contacted me saying their industry should not only be licensed but be required to have more ongoing training. -- Catherine Reagor, The Arizona Republic (link to blog)

In researching a bit more I came across the "News Alerts" page of the Arizona Department of Real Estate and found this blurb:

...On a very positive note, Sam Wercinski, our new Commissioner, is asking the legislature to approve a FOUR YEAR LICENSE upon renewal of an original two year license AND he has requested a net reduction of fees paid by real estate professionals.  More on this topic in a future Late Breaking News...

Interesting, a lifetime license! Makes me think of my Arizona driver's license (expires in 2047.. ridiculous I know).  And even if that doesn't happen a four year license is also being looked at!

It would obviously ease the strain on ADRE in terms of paperwork and such but I wonder how the renewal process would work; would they require the same number of hours of renewal courses every two years?
