Helping the REW staff give back to the community

Recently we were honoured with a very prestigious "workplace excellence" award for 2013 by the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce. Out of all the awards presented, it is this category that I will always want to receive nomination within our community. 

It has been great to receive recognition and accolades through our hard work these past 10 years in Nanaimo. I speak for all of our staff when I say we are very proud to be a part of this community - so to the chamber and the city of Nanaimo, I say thank you! Not just for the accolades & recognition, but for all the support we receive each and every day that has allowed us to grow to become one of Nanaimo's largest private employers. 

Our staff are the lifeblood of our company; they are truly amazing people! If it was not for them we would not be as fortunate and successful as we are today. It truly is a great place to work, and I am proud that I am able to play a part in it. I hope I can give back to them even a little of what they put in each and every single day. 

As I contemplated our nomination prior to the award ceremony I got to thinking; what we have done so far is great, and being recognized by our local community is great - but do we do enough? Could we do more? Not just for our staff, but for our community as a whole - I think we can. 

I KNOW WE CAN!

And then I came up with an idea! 

An idea that would allow us to help get our staff the recognition they deserve in the community (we can only be a great workplace BECAUSE we have great staff). People need to experience these rockstars! 

  • It's an idea that is good for the community.
  • It's an idea that is fun and engaging. 
  • It's an idea to increase charity awareness and teamwork within our community.
  • It's an idea that is good for my soul.

You ready? Here it is! 

Until July 25th 2014 Real Estate Webmasters Inc is going to donate $100 each and every single day to a charity fund where the staff & the community will come together to decide which deserving charities shall receive assistance. 

But how will we decide which charities to help, and how to use the funds? This is where the staff and community engagement part comes in.

I am going to let the staff decide! 

At the end of each month, I would like to help a new charity. To do so, I am going to ask the staff to submit proposals as to who "they" think are deserving charities.

I would like to know why these charities (among so many others) are deserving of the assistance. In telling these stories I would hope that it will gain valuable exposure for ALL submitted charities. 

I would like to know how the staff plan on using the funds and what they hope to achieve. 

I would like to know why the charity is special to them (I'd like to hear their story) and how they plan on being involved in the implementation of their strategy. 

Nanaimo! We need your help!

We will be sharing our submissions (great stories of deserving individually at our public facebook page located at https://www.facebook.com/realestatewebmasters - proposals will be selected by the community. Just come by the page, read through the submissions and leave a comment to show your support for your favourite story / charity. It costs you nothing more than a few seconds of your time and you will get to learn about some of the great work being done by fantastic charities here in Nanaimo every day. 

When you're done, if you wouldn't mind spreading the word by sharing this blog post, or your favourite submission on facebook we should be able to reach even more people! Again, it only takes a second, and costs nothing but your support can make a difference in someone else's life. Someone who could really use it. 

You can also recommend charities. There are so many amazing organizations in Nanaimo - if you would like to nominate one or more to give our staff ideas - please, leave a comment below here on my blog and tell us their story. Tell the WORLD their story. Every bit of exposure helps.

As for you business owners out there - I'd like to issue a friendly challenge. If you are able, we'd love for you to donate  to the selected charities. You can donate funds, or you can donate your time and come out and assist with the selected projects. If time and money are not available, perhaps you can donate your voice. Collective we ARE Nanaimo. We are the captains of industry and should be the stewards of good will in our community. By sharing the message that together we can make a difference, and helping gain exposure for worthy organizations - you will not only feel GREAT about yourself - you will also show Nanaimo what kind of community minded business you are.
