Orange County California 55+ (Senior) Active Lifestyle Communities

We recently had the opportunity to work with two different couples who were looking to downsize, yet be in an active lifestyle environment. As one would expect, Orange County, California's  year-round sunny weather and beautiful oceanside setting make it an ideal place for an active living retirement. We were highly impressed with the variety of attractive 55+ communities where residents can enjoy sports like golf and tennis, and live within easy walking distance of amenities. Many have resort like facilities with Clubhouse, Pool, Spa, Putting Greens, exercize rooms and almost any imaginable club activity available.

We were fortunate that we had an opportunity to visit and research these senior communities in San Clemente, Mission Viejo,  San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Niguel. They far exceeded our expectation about Orange County 55+ retirement communities and what they have to offer!

One client purchased a home in San Clemente in the Talega Gallery , a gated community with ocean close resort style living. Some of these homes overlook the Talega Golf Club, a Fred Couples designed course considered as one of the best public courses in Orange County. Talega, a relatively new community, has homes ranging upwards to $2,000,000 and the Gallery area homes range upwards to $1,100,00. A typical home in The Talega Gallery would be priced in the mid-$700,000 - $900,000 range (as of Oct 2009). Most would consider The Talega Gallery an upscale, luxury over 55 community.

Another client decided to purchase their new home in Palmia in Mission Viejo. This is a gate guarded, senior, active adult community nestled up to the Saddleback foothills. Palmia boasts the most extensive event calendar that we had seen and there was abundant activity at the Clubhouse each time we visited. Home prices in Palmia range up to the $800,000. In addition, there are a variety of condominiums available starting in the mid-$300,000 range that are surrounded by green belt.

Now that we have extensive knowlege about some of the senior communities in South Orange County, we hope to be able to help others with the important decision of where to move when downsizing for those Golden Years.
