The Government of Iraq has ordered 56 turbine generators from the General Electric Co. on Garlinton Rd. in Greenville, SC. This order is worth nearly $3 billion. This represents the largest order that GE has filled to date and should generate 7,000 megawatts of energy daily. Currently Iraq generates about 6,000 megawatts a day. GE claims that the order should be completed by 2010 and that the local work force of 3,200 should be able to handle the production.
GE has filled other orders from the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait have all been customers.
