Lake Whatcom is located near the city of Bellingham's easter border.  The lake stretches an amazing 14 miles south from Bellingham's silver beach neighborhood and continues miles south of the community of Sudden Valley.   Lake Whatcom serves the water needs of over 85,000 Whatcom county residents. 

Lake Whatcom is a popular recreation site for boating, swimming, fishing, and many other water sports.  Recently residents of Bellingham have been trying to balance the needs of clean water with the desire to have a place of recreation.  The health of the much needed water source has been declining at a rate faster then predicted.
