Lake Wallenpaupack is the second largest man-made lake in the north east. The idea conceived in 1922 and executed beginning 1924 by PP&L (Pennsylvania Power and Light company).  The land was purchased from about 100 land owners in which previously only a mountain stream ran through. The lake and damn where put into service in 1926 and generate a whopping 44,000 KW of power from the power plant. Little more than 500 people inhabit the region around the lake in the early years but the lake soon caught on as a fantastic recreational spot.
