Portland is the Greenest City in America
Posted Mar 15, 2008 @ 11:23 pm, Viewed by 231 Visitors, Read 264 Times.According to a study done for the February 2008 issue of Popular Science magazine, Portland, Oregon, is the #1 greenest city in America. The rankings were based on 4 criteria:
- Electricity: ie Where does the power come from?
- Transportation: ie How is the public transportation system?
- Green Living: ie Do you have lots of green buildings and parks?
- Recycling and Green Perspective: ie How much does the city recycle and do people care?
Of course, this isn't the first time Portland has been honored for being environmentally concious. In 2006, Sustain Lane, ranked Portland as the #1 most sustainable city in America.
This is the kind of thing that makes me proud to live in P-Town.

Cool Chicago is #9. Thanks for sharing the link, just gave me a blog post topic.
You're very welcome. I'm looking forward to seeing the blog!
Ken- Looking forward to seeing your post
Susan- I assume you're talking about a tankless or Insta-hot water heater, which heat up the water very quickly and only turn on when you use them. They are definitely the way to go for most purposes these days.
Right...there was no tank, just a smallish piece of equipment mounted to the wall. This particular client is really into the latest and greatest. You should see her bathrooms, surround sound, flat screen tv and you push a button which is flush to the wall and blends with the decor for the toilet. She said she was going to get a remote control, but figured it would be a little over the top!
Tankless hot water heaters are really not that expensive and they require much less resources. They also last much longer then a standard hot water heater so you will not need to worry about replacing them as often. When my hot water heater goes it will be replaced by a tankless one.
I think she said it was $3500 including installation.

We've got a ways to go here in Morristown NJ...but we're getting there. A client of mine put in a (green) hotwater heater which I haven't seen before...its very small. They're not doing it in new construction...probably because its was very expensive. She said there is very little chance that she will ever run out of hot water. Very cool.
