Canoe Races and other Naples activities!
The Canoe Races were yet again attended by thousands of Naples residents and snowbirds yesterday May 12th, a highlight to the end of winter seasons here in Naples! Crayton Cove saw the 36th annual canoe race on yet another beautiful day, sunny but with scattered clouds, perfect for the fun and games that always follow. Hundreds of sightseers lined the waters edge, or rocked in their own boats to watch the event. Although not everyone got to see the races, with so many boats sometimes the canoes are hard to see. What is hard to miss however, is the after party, as a huge fleet of yachts , deck and power boats head south to Keeywadin Island to moor, sometimes so closely due to their huge number, to enjoy themselves. Water fights, music the smell barbques and a party atmosphere which went on well into the night! A great day for most, but 8 people were arrested for drunk driving their boats and sadly for drug use. Why is it that having fun is not enough for some people. The law enforcement officers of Naples have thier work cut out every year at this event, thanks to them the Canoe Races carry on safely in the style they were originally intended, one of fun and celebration of the end of the Naples Winter Season!
