HAR Site Down Today

Today, the Houston Association of Realtor's site came down today, with no reports of exactly what happened.  Since late on the 2nd of May, the consumer site for HAR began having technical difficulties, along with the agent sites, neighborhood reports, and even IDX feeds agents frame on their sites.

After calling HAR technical support, there is on estimated completion time for this outage to be repaired, but they are aware of the problem and working to resolve it as quickly as possible. I will be sure to keep you abreast of any news that transpires.

 - Who spilled their coffee on the servers?-

On a side note, has your associations site ever had long technical difficulties and how did that effect your business?  Most consumers will visit a real estate agent website or their local real estate agent association to view listings.  When these are not available, one can only assume that consumers will look else where to view homes for sale.

Where is the redundancy in the HAR system? Where is the segregated backup systems on a separate network? If they had implemented a structured server setup with separate networks, separate backups and off-net disaster systems they would not be in this position. They need to employ people with real world IT skills to make sure this does not happen again and stop employing the back-bedroom IT guys. Realtors pay a pretty penny for HAR and they should be investing that cash in a system that has the redundancy capabilities and backups of a system costing this much. Cowboys in Texas - the real thing!

Hi Richard, I 100% agree with you. At to this very moment, they are still down! A vast majority of buyers start their searches online, with HAR being a source of IDX feeds for agents, plus the actual MLS search they have themselves. With it all down, where do the buyers go?

Hi Paul! I agree; many consumers looking for a home in Houston were simply left in the dark with no way to browse homes. Thankfully, most issues looked to be functional now.

Being a buyer residing in a foreign country soon to move back to Houston, this disaster is bad for me. How can a large organization conducting their IT business this way? The site has be problematic for almost a month and now I can't even reach the site. They should do something drastic about their IT department!!!
