Ex-Call Girl Considers Career in Realty

It's probably fair to say that the real estate industry is renowned for attracting a certain type of person. It continually appeals to ambitious, hard working go-getters, keen to make a good living in the, often cut-throat, world of property sales. Occasionally, one of the more photogenic, or outspoken, experts will get picked up by some reality or lifestyle TV show, and before you know it, a once-humble realtor rises to celebrity status. These exalted ambassadors of the real estate business are then seen by millions, dispensing valuable gems of information for buyers and sellers alike.

And it can work in reverse, too. There is something of a tradition for ex-celebs, forever in pursuit of that exclusive lifestyle, to turn to real estate as a new career, as their once glittering star descends, and the showbiz work dries up. Over the decades, countless faded TV stars, ex-professional athletes, one-time pop idols, etc, have turned to real estate as a means of trying to maintain a certain profile, and perceived level of income.

And the latest 'name' to decide that real estate is the way forward to securing an illustrious career? None other than recent Playboy cover girl Ashley Dupre. Remember her? She of New York Governor Eliot Spitzer downfall fame? The one who's mother has the name Carolyn Capalbo?

Apparently, having recently returned to New York from Los Angeles, where she presumably made less of a splash than some might have expected, the former high-class prostitute has passed a Real Estate Salesperson Course at NYU. This of course, caused The New York Post, where Dupre is employed as a sex columnist, to declare that "Manhattan real estate is about to get even hotter". Indeed.

While it's almost certain that several headline writers and bloggers around the globe will be able to come up with a few hilarious jokes regarding her past life and her new chosen vocation, it seems that we may just be about to witness another wave of renewed online interest in Dupre. This of course, means that the words 'Carolyn Capalbo' and 'real estate' may start appearing in the same articles and posts, with no reference whatsoever to Carolyn Capalbo, trusted North Virginia Real Estate expert. And we know all about how that could affect the latter's online ranking and reputation management. Again.

Of all the jobs in the world, why does Ashley Dupre have to consider real estate? I suppose it could be worse; she could be going into partnership with her mother...

Don't forget, the REW Reputation Management Contest, with almost $30,000 of amazing prizes on offer, is still ongoing.

And as another reminder, you can read my initial blog post about Carolyn's plight here.

Maybe she can capitalize on the brothel market? She must have some connections.

That is really bad luck, but it could happen to anyone and it's hard to do anything about it. I think it's fair to say that most of us are competing for web real estate with others of our same name. It's a lot more difficult for those with common names or famous namesakes. All in all, I don't think that Carolyn has it all that bad since her namesake is famous only by association. I'd feel really bad for an agent named Ashley Dupre, though. You'd have no chance.

I truly wish Ashley well in her Real Estate endeavors. I hope she uses this opportunity to become an ethical and responsible agent. An agent that takes the time to study and understand the market. An agent that properly advises clients to make the best decision for their situations. An agent that puts the needs of her clients ahead of her personal needs and goals. If she does this she will most certainly clean up her on line reputation and image over time.

LOL I forwarded this to my husband who is also a Realtor. He shares a name with a world famous hot air balloonist. Now he can feel a little bit better about his competition for top spot in google. It could be worse...much worse!
