Leaving Copies of E-Mail on the Server

Once and a while I get a request to have e-mail left on the server for multiple people to be able to access from different PC's

This is a setting in Outlook and below is the step-by-step on how to turn this feature on.

This tutorial was created using Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003 will be similar enough to make sense.

First we go to the "Tools" menu the select "Account Settings" (shown below)

Select "Change..." from the Menu under E-mail.

Once the "Change E-mail Account dialog is up go to the "More Settings" button in the lower left corner of the box. (see below)

This button will open this:

Select the "Advanced" tab.

Then in the bottom section under "Delivery" you will… Read Full Post

Listing Pictures Not Showing Up In REW CMS

photo REW Thomas

When you have a REW CMS, you have the ability to add your featured listings into the listings manager.

Sometimes I get inquiries about why an image won't show up or why after adding 6 images they see 12 of 6 in the image count.

Well there is a simple explanation; Apostrophes

When you are entering the address if the name is "931 David's Lane" (without the quotes) the apostrophe can create a problem.  It will add the listing, you can add the pictures but they do not show up.

If you add the name as "931 Davids Lane" there is no problem with the Listing, the pictures or the display of the listing details.

This only happens in rare cases but I thought it may be helpful to know how to fix this if you see this happening to your listings as you add… Read Full Post

Anonymous Relay And ISP's And How They Effect Mail Handling.

photo REW Thomas

Folks,

I have been fielding a lot of e-mail send/receive problems as of late and I wanted to let you all know the fix.

When you are hosted with Real Estate Webmasters you get mail hosting for free on our servers.

The problem with that is that over a year ago a large-scale spam attack caused many ISP's to deny anonymous relay of mail.

So, to still send and receive mail you will have to first know who gives you your connection to the internet.

In the case of a Cox.net customer I have, we made his outgoing SMTP to smtp.east.cox.net

Another customer of mine uses qwest and set their SMTP to smtp.phnx.qwest.com

Keep in mind you do have to make sure you authenticate yourself on their servers by setting the Outgoing server to use the Incoming… Read Full Post

How To Void Your XBOX 360 Warranty

photo REW Thomas

WARNING: Following these instructions will void your XBOX 360 warranty

I have recently had a chance to learn more about the cool hardware and technology in a XBOX 360. My boss's XBOX 360 had failed and would not boot or work. After contacting the point of sale and Microsoft, he found that his warranty had expired and they could not help him with repair service. After spending some time looking at forum posts on how to disassemble the 360 I set to work. Armed with my Torx screwdrivers, a chunk of plastic from a DVD spindle cover and a long bamboo kebob stick I started to strip that 360 down.

The First step is removing the front faceplate and hard drive (if you have one)

After removing this you will need to use the pointy end of the kebab stick or a… Read Full Post

How To Remove IE7

photo REW Thomas

Folks,

We are not trying to flame Microsoft here.

The reason we are providing this tutorial is that some of our customers were very dismayed to find out that they had been forced to install IE7.

We at Real Estate Webmasters understand that the roll-out of IE7 has been enforced by Microsoft worldwide, and because of this users worldwide are seeing broken websites.

The publication of this next generation browser has changed the way the code is interpreted.
This has caused things like navigation links, text formatting and site layouts to appear in different and sometimes broken ways.

We will repair our clients websites for this new browser and are also sorry that this has caused any extra expense as this will be billable time.
