Wandering the ether I have gathered a few hints and tips for setting up your mail accounts in Outlook, Outlook Express and even the Other e-mail applications.

First we start with your Example of my ficitional domain www.rewthomas.com
My user account : thomas
My password: potato1

The latest Office version of Outlook which is tin Beta is used to show the common setup steps. Each application will vary slightly but the settings are always the same.

In the Beta Outlook the ribbon at the top of the display allows a context sensitive help mechanism new to the office suite. (see fig.1)  fig 1

Select the "Account Settings" menu choice from the "Tools" Menu
and then you will be able to create the account or change the current settings.

After choosing or creating a new account you will be faced with the following screen to enter the e-mail server settings. (see fig.2)

fig 2

Using the example provided, the incoming and outgoing mail server settings would be
mail.rewthomas.com for both incoming and outgoing SMTP server

the username is: thomas@rewthomas.com
the password is : potato1

There is a "More Settings" button in Outlook Beta 2003 and some of the other outlook versions. Choose this and you will see the following screen. (see fig.3)

fig 3

Make sure to check the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and "Use same settings as my incoming server" is the radio button selected.

These settings need to be saved and Bingo bango you have mail!!!!

Let me know if this instruction is incorrect or incomplete and I will be happy to update it.

Until next time, Good Hunting
