Addicted to a Digital World

I tried an experiment today.  My best friend in the world just came back from Russia where he has been for the past 10 months.  He has been there playing hockey (he happens to be a pro hockey player, use to play in the NHL but left to play in Russia for a few years).  Anyway, he is younger than I am and looks up to me to help him out where he needs help.  So, he asked me to take a ride today to Home Depot.  I reluctantly said yes and left my phone and laptop at home.  We went to Home Depot and bought a bunch of stuff, took like 2 hours or so.

After about 1 hour, I started to get withdrawal symptoms.  Now mind you, in my home where I conduct most of my business, I have computers in every room, my phone always by my side and am constantly connected somehow to the net.  This was a test for myself to see if I could function outside of my little world.  Well, I think I failed.  Selling in the Tampa Real Estate market, it can be pretty dynamic with all the foreclosures, and investors now coming out of the woodworks so I need to stay connected.

That 2 hours was a huge mistake.  I had accumulated about 100 emails that needed to be addressed, about 15 phone calls that needed to be handled, and while I was trying to catch up with all of that, my phone continued to ring off the hook.  I managed to get my life back under control by about 4:30pm today where I could at least slow down and have a glass of wine.

Basically, long story short, I love my friend like a brother, and I love my wife, but the other woman in my life seems to make high demands on me, and I just can't let go.  I am Addicted to the Digital World!

Hey, me too! My addiction is a little less severe, however. I think the reason I'm always online is due to lack of other things to do

I second that! I can hardly sleep through the night without checking my e-mail. Funny post

I think I am sick.  I thought about how a vacation would be for me if I took one today and I can't see past the first couple hours.  I actually began to shake just thinking about not being connected to the real world, nor would I want to deal with the mountain of information I would need to sift thru if I went away for just a weekend.   Man, I even scare myself sometimes

You need to leverage yourself with an assisstant and buyer specialists.  Generate the leads and funnel them to a capable persons to follow up in the manner that you teach them.  Go read Gary Kellers Millionaire Real Estate Agent and model your business as suggested.  There is no way you can be a top ranked Tampa site and do everything.  Be the rainmaker and have a team to keep everything fluid.  You will still be able to do what you love, but you will set yourself up to be able to walk away for a breather from time to time.  Most people don't understand just how much time is invested getting top rankings for your sellers as well as using those rankings to bring in buyers.  You have to bring help into the fold and have them understand that your split is well earned and that they should appreciate the massive amounts of rain that you will pour upon them.  Get the book and follow the model!

Robert, I just read your profile - I am sure you are way ahead of the curve in what was suggested above.  How about PM'ing me some of your viral marketing ideas!

I actually have read the MREA, I do have an assistant, I do have a buyers agents with more on the way, but I have a hard time disconnecting myself from the machine.  It is almost like a drug.    I need more assitants...and more buyers agents and that will be resolved in the next few weeks...but I agree

Reading that was like looking in the mirror, lol. My wife went to the store the other day and ran into one of our friends and she asked where I was. My wife said he is in his recliner asleep with his laptop on his lap. She laughed and told my wife she needs to get a picture of that and post it on my website with a caption saying "Your Realtor Works Hard 24/7 For You."

It is amazing that there are others out there that are like me...I thought I was the only one that took it to this level, I guess we can have a club now

Judging by the thousands of people religiously checking the REW thread everyday, I'd say you're FAR from alone.
