The Good, Bad and the Ugly when it comes to Social Media

Being involved in the Tampa Real Estate arena, you are always looking for new ways to advertise yourself and your listings. Along came a Spider (Social Media) and a new frontier in marketing was born. Social Media, Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, etc are great places to stay connected with friends, find out the latest news before its reported, or post an online resume for a job. Whatever you are using Social Media for, it has its good side and bad side.
So you have seen the good, and that is just a blip of what it can actually do for you, but now for the bad. People will use it against you, especially when you are at the top of your game. They will try to take anything that you say, post, etc. and twist it so bad that you actually feel bad about it (but just momentarily, at least until you come to your senses). Transparency is a wonderful thing, and people can see who you are, or you can hide who you are and only show what you want people to perceive. I wouldn't advise you to take the path of hiding who you are, but many people do. Why you ask, because they don't understand how not to, and that is where the problem is. There are so many "fakes" out there that you end up thinking they are great people, and then you turn around as they plunge swords in your back.
The morale to this little tale is, you can't fall up, and if you are near the top of the mountain, you need to be weary of those that are not truly your friends even though they may seem it at face value....and Social Media is a great arena for them to take you on in, especially when you are on the top of your game.

Thanks Cal,
I am always trying to improve and fine tune what I have "in Play". Transparency is key for me, what you see is what you get, and I sleep well at night.
If and when I stop learning, I need to get out of the business and do something else....I have a long way to go so....
You make a very good point here. Do you think there is such a thing as too much transparency? It would seem to me that the ones that are looking to take you down could use some of the transparency to their advantage. Just a thought...
Nope, I stand by who I am and what I am about...I don't hide the fact and that is why people do business with me and our team. There are times I believe that there should be a level of privacy, hence when children are involved, but other than that, it really is dependent on a person by person basis. I myself sleep well at night!

Rob doesn't operate in Stealth mode for sure! He is in full view of everyone's radar. When you are on top, rest assured you have a big target on your back and some will knock your feet out from under you to take your spot. I'm sure he hasn't seen the "top of his game".
