Curb Appeal in Winter
Posted Dec 20, 2006 @ 7:39 pm, Viewed by 1437 Visitors, Read 1468 Times.Cold days, bare trees and brown grass can make it hard for your home to shine in winter. If you have your home for sale or will place your home for sale during the winter months, there are many things that you can do to make your home stand in a crowded market. Make sure your home has excellent curb appeal to showcase it and elevate your home above the competition.
Plant Flowers - There are many beautiful varieties of flowers that look their best during the cold winter months. Depending on your climate, pansies, mumms and lambs ear add wonderful color and stand out against the brown backdrop. Remember to plant something green to remind buyers of warmer times.
Remove All Leaves - Make sure you don't have any remaining leaves floating across your yard. This is overlooked often, and makes a good impression of a clean, crisp yard that will return to a beautiful emerald green in the spring and summer.
Add Color Around Your Mailbox - Help draw your buyers to your home as they drive up by showing off your winter flowers before they even arrive.
Draw Buyers to Your Door - This area must feel very welcoming and in the winter will be much more exposed from the street than at any other time. A fresh coat of paint on the door and surrounding trim will do wonders for a great first impression as a potential buyer walks to the door.
In the final analysis, your home will be much more exposed in the winter than in the summer and a potential buyer will notice all of the flaws more easily. This presents a great opportunity to show off many subtle attributes and details your home may have. With nighttime falling early, make sure you have adequate exterior lighting shining up to showcase these details. Winter curb appeal may seam like an afterthought, but, don't be fooled. Many buyers prefer to shop for a home in the winter when homes are receiving less traffic. They believe that a better deal can be had for the home. Make sure your home is ready for these buyers by maximizing the curb appeal. Ryan - What do you suggest when the weatherman offers up a foot of snow *looking out the window at the Heavy Snowfall Warning issued for Calgary today*
?
Make some hot chocolate. That doesn't sound like a good day to show real estate. However, if a buyer is out in that weather, you know you have someone who is dedicated to buying a home. A safe path to the front door may be all that is required. If you have a garage, let the buyer park in it. Then you would focus on how the garage looks.
