Web 2.0 Real or Not, You Need Some of the Technology
Posted Apr 2, 2008 @ 10:27 pm, Viewed by 241 Visitors, Read 262 Times.Recently there was a big bloggers conference here in Atlanta and I missed it. For good reason, but, missed it none the less. Anyway, seems a big topic at the event dealt with "web 2.0". A search for web 2.0 from wikipedia suggests that what it is more than anything is the idea that we should be creating more interactive websites. Sort of take some of the anonymity away and get users involved. I'm not sure as to its effectiveness in general, but, it seems like something that we should all be trying to shoot for - make it easier for consumers to contact us. More of an evolution of ergonomics and methods of contact rather than some really new great idea.
So I've fooled around and added a new tool, Plugin actually, to my Atlanta real estate blog for consumers. If you have read my blog before, you might notice that my feelings for third party websites like Trulia and the others has never been great, but, not because I dislike them. To the contrary, it's because they do a great job and are extremely innovative and our own organization does nothing to keep up with these sites. Sad if you ask me, but, it is what it is. As an individual blogger I can't keep up with the links needed that a site like that can obtain, but, we can and do offer better, more accurate information. The tool I added, allows users to ask a question on a page of the website and get an answer. The answers get displayed one after the other so people can look at what others have asked. It provides a place for people to suggest new blog topics and opens the blog up much more than a comment form at the bottom can do.
The Plugin is called FAQ-Tastic and is really designed to create a FAQ page for WordPress, but, I sort of saw a bit of a different use for it and wanted to share. I set it up this morning and nobody has used it yet, but hey - it's there and available and I think it is very much "Web 2.0". I think. I'm still not really sure.

Hah! I'll answe in a bit. Have to run out right now...couldn't you start me off with something, umm...alittle less controversial?
LOL! An answer to that one will lose you some customers no matter what the answer is! OK, I visited the blog. Without the big red arrow, which will move once you make another post, the Ask a Question was barely visible to me. Actually, on my screen the arrow is pointing to your 3 buttons. So I can't see how much use it would get at this point. I'm sure you will tweak it to make it more noticeable and I'll have to remember to stop back to see if it does get used.
Yeah! I'm not answering...You are correct though as it will need to be more noticeable. Once the post is moved down, I'll drop the arrow out of the post and look at it with a set of fresh eyes. Hey, you never know what someone else wants to know.
Sweet Plug-in Ryan! I just might have to toy with one myself... BTW: It looked like some of the text was getting hidden on your blog. I am guessing it is a formatting issue from the new plug-in.
Could be...Seems it's now fixed in FF and in some versions of IE7, but, not on others...
I was browsing in FF? It was just the bottom of the text that read... "other people have asked."
yeah...Works fine in my FF and in my IE7, but, not in others??? Someone else told me that it isn't right in their version...more work to do.

Another great job Ryan! I bought! I just asked this question: "Ok, I'll bite! Hmm, how will the real estate market prevail if a Democrat wins the presidency by a narrow margin over a Republican who soundly defeats his Independent rival, as opposed to a Democrat soundly defeating an Independent challenger who narrowly defeats the Republican opposition?" I'll expect a prompt reply!
