MSN a Complete Waste of Time For Consumers Seeking Real Estate in Atlanta
Posted Apr 24, 2008 @ 2:58 pm, Viewed by 165 Visitors, Read 180 Times.Unbelievable would be what I thought when I first saw it. Poor business decision, if that's what it is would be the reality. You see, MSN has some very unusual search results here in Atlanta. Typically, the most frequently searched term by consumers looking for real estate will be "city real estate" and in Atlanta, MSN returns the same website something on the order of 498 out of the first 500 search results! Here's a screen shot:

O.K. So I guess it's not exactly the same result - they are all subdomains of the same website. Now if you were a consumer searching for Atlanta homes for sale using the most used keyword phrase, do you think it might be a good idea to serve up the same website over and over again like this? Seriously.
Here is the search result so you can see for yourself - my understanding is that not everyone will see it, but, I asked quite a few people from around the country and in Canada and just about all of them see it. This is outrageous AND it serves as a warning as to the credibility of their search results in general. For me, it simply confirms the idea that my search engine of choice remains Google. It's not just MSN that fools around in one way or another. Take yahoo for example. They have a partnership with Prudential using Prudentials data to populate their real estate search results. That's not quite as egregious as MSN's malfeasance, but, certainly does, at least for me, call into question what else is going on that we are not aware of.

stupid comment system dropped my smiley at the end of that comment. so i just have to start typing *grin* now i guess...grr.
ooh Lydia...I meant to get back to you...I'll catch up with you tomorrow about you award...Yes, these results are absolutely absurd and they've been this way for a long tme..I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just some glitch for a day or two. It's been months.
When I first saw that I thought it must be some sort of glitch, but after all this time it does show just how irrelevant MSN & Live Search really are. Worthless. As for Yahoo I think they do OK as long as you don't use their Real Estate section and just use the Yahoo Search Engine. Google really isn't much better IMO. In my area the top searches are crappy AA sites with link schemes that some of us were penalized for a year ago yet these guys still get away with it. Google is the most relevant but they still leave a lot to be desired.
Ha! So much for MSN. That's what makes SEO challenging, some engines will put anything on the first page and other engines require us to have worthwhile content on our sites to get good rankings.
Wow that is crazy. I NEVER use MSN because they are way to easy to spam and most of the top 10 sites are normally crap sites built by spammers. When I see keyword stuffed domain after keyword stuffed domain as the top results I know there is an issue. Not sure why anyone would use MSN as a search engin other.

Wow, that's pretty incredible. I checked the results for 'Augusta Real Estate' and can confirm that they are just as bad. After all, they have me on the bottom of page 3.
