Congratulations to yet another team from Venice High School on bringing a state championship to our community.

The  Venice High baseball team is the Florida Class 5A State Champion!
The Indians dispatched a strong Port St. Lucie Jaguar team 12-1 in a game ending after 6 innings (10 run mercy rule) at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.
The Indians baseball team last played for a state championship in 1999 at Tampa's Legends Field, where they lost to Merritt Island 6-4.

This brings up a very important point about our wonderful area, as Jan and I constantly point out to our customers,.. there is literally something for EVERYONE here!
Take a moment to consider that we won the championship in class 5A.  In interscholastic sports in Florida, there are 6 divisions,, and we are in the second largest, which speaks to our population of families and children.  We enjoy a school district that constantly ranks as one of the top schools in the state.  But lets take a look back, since 1997, at just what our local student atheletes have been able to accomplish on a statewide level:

  • 2007 Baseball State Champions
  • 2005 Volleyball State Champions
  • 2005 Girls Basketball State Runner-ups
  • 2005 Wrestling State Runner-ups
  • 2004 Volleyball State Runner-ups
  • 2000 Football State Champions
  • 1999 Baseball State Runner-ups
  • 1998 Volleyball State Champions
  • 1997 Volleyball State Runner-ups

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT LIST?!?!?!

Not only do our children receive a first class education in Sarasota County, but they also give back.  In these cases, the spirit and sense of pride and community that is created locally when any one of our teams progresses deep into a State tournament is a wonderful thing to behold.
Just one more thing that contributes to the quality of life here in Venice.

Congratultions to ALL of our student atheletes, who give thier all each and every time they compete, and especially to all of those
members of the State Championship Teams.

Mercy, Mercy Mercy, why would you want to live anywhere else?
