Beginning of a new Era

Congratulations are in order for our friend Ann Roggero.  She has been named the Campus Executive Officer (CEO) at the Manatee Community College (MCC) Venice Campus.   

I first met Ann when she was the Vice President of Human Resources at Bon Secours-Venice Health care Corporation and worked out of Bon Secours Venice Hospital.  One only needs speak with Ann for a few minutes to sense her passion for people, her love of life and her commitment to our beautiful community, not to mention her considerable intellect, management skills and technical ability.  She is well known in south county for her participation in many area service organizations and as a gifted speaker.  In fact, it was listening to speakers like her that prompted me to join our local Toastmaster's International group to improve my speaking and presenting skills. 

For those of you who may not know or remember, when Bon Secours  (not for profit), sold the Hospital to current owner Health Management Associates, and the Hospital Foundation was dissolved (because the new owners are for-profit), the funds from the Foundation were used to create an Endowment Chair for the Nursing Program at the MCC Venice Campus, thereby ensuring that moneys originally realized from the sale of the Venice Community Hospital to Bon Secours in 1995 remained in our community and continued to support quality health care in the area.  This $2.5 million donation was augmented by the State of Florida's matching program to bring the total amount to $4.167 million.
