IT Market in Triangle Area Enjoys 5 Percent Increase in Income

Five minutes West of Raleigh, North Carolina is home to large collection of IT companies including IBM, Cisco, Lenovo and many more. This area is known locally as “The Triangle” and has long been recognized as one of the best places in the country to get a job in the IT field. Not only is the area home to a number of technology-related companies and corporations, but the pay rate for these jobs is also quite attractive when compared to pay rates around the nation. In fact, according to a recent report, those who are employed in the technology sector in the Triangle area have been enjoying a greater increase in pay than the national average.

According to Dice, which is a technology and engineering career Website, the average pay for technology workers employed within the Triangle increased by 5 percent in 2010. During this same time period, the salary growth rate of IT professionals across the country hit a virtual standstill.

The information was gathered with the help of an online poll, which polled nearly 20,000 people employed in the IT field throughout the country. While the poll found that the average compensation for IT professionals throughout the country increased by 0.7 percent to $79,385 per year, pay increased by 5 percent in the Triangle area. Furthermore, from 2007 to 2010, the average IT compensation grew by an impressive 14 percent within the Triangle area. As such, the average salary of IT workers in the Raleigh area increased from $74,059 in 2009 to $77,825 in 2010.

In addition to enjoying an increase in salary, IT professionals in the Triangle area have also seen an increase in employment opportunities. When looking at the number of IT employment opportunities being listed on the Dice Website, the sector has enjoyed a 49% increase in job openings. This averages to about 700 IT job listings per day.

  • Advanced Business Application Programming – average salary of $105,887 per year
  • Information Databases – average salary of $101,989 per year
  • Service-Oriented Architecture – average salary of $101,827 per year
  • ETL (Extract Transform and Load) – average salary of $100,983 per year
