SEO Nick's New Year's Resolutions.

It's been a while since I made my last post.. so I thought I would update y'all on what I have planned for 2008. I have a basic idea of some things that I want to get done before the summer even.

I think the main thing I want to happen before the summertime is for me to get in better shape. I spend a LOT of time on computers and I think that with a little self-motivation, I can get out a little more. Since a lot of my friends have moved away to either go to school or work, I have little motivation to go for the weekly hikes and walks that I used to be into.

I signed up for a gym a while ago (which reminds me, I need to renew my membership!). I've gone a couple times but it's been hard with the holiday season. Now that it's winding down, I think it will be easier to make time to work out. So, that's step one.

Another thing I've had my eye on for years is playing in a band and actually playing a show. It's been a long time since I have been in a band and it's something I think I need to do. I am truly happy when I'm jamming and I think being in front of an audience will only increase the amount of joy I get from it. I'm currently in a band right now with some friends. It's going good. We play really well and we are starting to put together some original songs.

I think that's pretty much it. The more simple I keep my resolutions, the easier it will be to actually stick to them

I'm with you on the gym...I started back about a month ago, and it feels good. I'm surprised you're not in a band yet, man! I've listened to your stuff on myspace, and it's good.

Thanks! That's just playing around with some basic tools. The band thing is in the works. We are actually in the process of finding a name. And yeah, the gym does feel good!

I need to get back to the gym to Nick - I was thinking about going with Dick and Kim, but three can sometimes be a crowd when you are training - you and I are about the same height (Sweet no having to adjust benches!) maybe we should start going - Where is your membership? I was thinking of heading to the old quarter way.

I'd be down. I'm not exactly sure what the name is, I would have to ask Ian.. but it's right under where the Grizzly used to be. It's really big with a lot of new machines and stuff. As soon as Ian goes back to school, he said he would start going to the Gym at Mala - it's free; so I'm lookin' for someone to start going with.

I saw your new avtar, you should add quit smoking to your news year resolution. Seems like the whole real estate webasters staff are smokers. We want you guys to continue to make great websites, not die of lung cancer.

That's actually a picture of David Bowie smoking. Not I I am a non-smoker.

I am back on the work out trail too. I used to take my eating habits and work outs seriously but I have let it slide for way too long and have quite a few extra pounds. Here is to one week of sticking to my eating plan. I like the Body for Life program. Don't know if any of you have read that book but it is a great plan and works. When I turned 40 I went from 18% bodyfat to 8% in about 4 months on the program and had my highest weight lifts ever in the process. Good luck everyone and I hope you stick it out.

Good lord, Wayne! 8% body fat at 40 is body builder stats, man!

Posted 5 months ago

Well I am 48 now so I don't know if I can do it again but I am gonna try. I would be pretty happy with 12% I think. I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe posting it here will give me additional incentive to hang in.

The jamming with the band sounds like the best part. I pick up the guitar and get into it for a few days and then get sidetracked and don't pick it back up for months. It is amazing how much quicker and how much more fun it is when you are jamming with some folks. Visit the site of the most famous musician from my home town - great jamming sounds - at least Clapton thinks so - http://www.muddywaters.com (I know his brother and went to elementary with his nephews)

Thank you

Sounds great Nick, be sure to let me know when you guys do your first show! Wayne - where do you find out what your body fat % is? Do you need to check it out at the doc or what? I've been having a hard time figuring out what weight I want to be at because at the doc's, their health chart can't possibly factor in muscle, or at least the one I was looking at. The weights were far too low.

Posted 5 months ago

I had a gym trainer check me with fat calipers. Doctor charts, as you said, do not take into account muscle or body type. We want to gain muscle while losing fat so just weight will not tell you about this transition.

Posted 5 months ago

Yeah the weight thing won't work for you Dave cause you are a giant (You are 6'7 aren't you?) anyways - it's not really about how much fat you have, it's about how healthy you are and you feel (Right now I feel like crap and am not healthy lol)

Just an update here: We have named our band: Les French Cougars and Zee German Bears. We have a myspace up (see related links) with a couple of demos (me playing 2 of our songs just on guitar.)

Great resolutions Nick. Good luck with them!

Posted 5 months ago

Dave Friday, you can use calipers, or simply by a weight scale that measures fat percentage. Both will get you within 1% accuracy! If you are over 40, anything under 15% is considered lean.

Nick, have you sucked it up and gone to the gym with Morgan.

Not yet! I have been slacking off recently these days.. I'm too busy with work and my band! I would like to start going again soon, though. I've been running at nighttime instead.

Enjoy it Nick - I used to stay out to the wee hours of the morn.  Now I can hardly make it past 9:30 PM.
