Kennewick Washington Annexation

The Kennewick Wa City Council acknowledges that rapid development in the area justifies the need for additional services to the region. With the increase in residency that most often is taking place in areas outside of the city boundaries, due to less restrictive zoning requirements and more economically viable housing, has created “fringe areas.” The development of these areas can, if not monitored, lead to increasingly complex administration, with the likelihood of ineffective and costly delivery of services.

However, properly applied annexation can maintain the prosperous development of urban areas as efficient parts of a larger unified whole. The Kennewick Washington Comprehensive Plan has prioritized “county islands” within the City’s boundaries. Currently, work is being done to annex these islands as part of the City. It is anticipated that property owners and other residents in the immediate area will be provided with a high level of services at economical cost.

Following annexation, it is expected that the City of Kennewick will have numerous efficient and effective police and fire services, as well as recreation works, zoning and building services, street maintenance and park and public facility maintenance. This will result in protected land values, lower property taxes and reduce water rates, to name some of the benefits.
