An investment in Pasco Wa real estate certainly would include a look at Pasco's wineries and the impact the wine industry has and will have on the real estate market. Pasco may have started off as an agrarian city but economically speaking the vineyards and the wineries have also been contributing substantially to the economic growth of the region. Today these wineries are booming and there is great demand for the local wine. Many of the wineries are situated in Washington's Tri-Cities or in proximity to them. Regular tours of the vineyards and the wineries are available and wine tasting sessions are frequent.
The main viticulture area is situated in the Columbia Valley. One of the major centers for this is the Red Mountain appellation. Among the famous wineries in the
region: Balcom & Moe Winery | Gordon Brothers Cellar | Kamiak Vineyards | Preston Premium Wines
Pasco's Most Popular Wineries
~ Gordon and Preston ~
The Gordon Brothers are by far the most well known among the wine makers. In the 1980s Jeff Gordon decided to buy land and sow the red varietals, a decision that against all local logic. But time proved otherwise. Today a neat stack of estate-grown wines dot his cellar and has proven that conventional wisdom may not always be the right choice.
Lucky with the land and their own desire to nurture it to its full potential the Gordon family created a vineyard that was fertilizer free with organic cherry and apple orchards all around it. The soil there too was a unique one with volcanic soil properties inclusive of minerals like clay loam, sandy loam, gravelly loam and basalt, of which enabled the production of rich and deep grapes.
The Gordon Family vineyards are perched at a height of 620 feet above sea-level parallel to the Snake River. Tremendous ventilation and the best of the reverie influences have made this vineyard one of the best located. While there is a blanket of snow covering the vineyards in winter, the hot summers and spring offer better chances for ripening the grapes which come high in acids and sugar levels.
Among the varieties grown in Pasco Washington are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer and small portions of the Tempranillo and Malbec. The absence of phylloxera in Washington, ensures that all vines grow and ripen on their own rootstock thus offering 'true' grape varieties. Maximum sun exposure and good irrigation facilities with water from the Snake River keep the vineyards lush and healthy.
The Preston family, owners of the Preston Premium Wines were the pioneers in grape growing in the Columbia valley region in Washington state. The Preston family vineyards have been around since 1972 and have been producing wines since 1976. The selection under their brand name is wide ranging starting from the Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah right up to the Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and Ports.
Apart from routine wine tasting sessions there are generally gift shops and a chance to go on a self-guided tours of the wineries. Equipped with a picnic park, a gazebo and amphitheater; panoramic vistas of the vineyards and Pasco's agrarian land are also available.
