The Columbia River Exhibition
Posted Jul 8, 2007 @ 9:29 am, Viewed by 317 Visitors, Read 321 Times. The Columbia River Exhibition of History, Science, and Technology (CREHST) in Richland is an interesting repository of information regarding the Columbia basin and adjacent regions.
Many multi dimensional exhibits comprising physical activities and interactive displays involving onlookers are featured here. This center traces the history of the region from the time when rudimentary forms of irrigation were developing down to the emergence of the nuclear era. It is a fascinating journey captured with unique visual attractions to make learning enjoyable for children and adults. You can travel through time exploring the twists and turns in the historical and geological Hanford Reach project,
making this city the main role in the development of nuclear science in America. In 1991 the discovery of many historical signs in a pit here, shed light on some landmark events in the history of mankind. These signs are displayed at the CREHST. Interestingly one of the signs was a picture of Hitler.
The geological past is showcased through some murals depicting volcanic activity in the Cascades. Other displays comprise life sized models of the species of fish in the waters of the columbia.
Hanford was the site of a confidential project being developed to enable the western powers win WWII. Displays comprise real materials and tools which were used to produce plutonium. In a bid to clean the environment and the legacy of Hanford, mankind is having to pay a heavy price today.
The exhibit for children based on the Christmas theme is another attraction with opportunities to see how well one can decorate a Christmas tree and design train tracks. Additionally, guided kayak tours, paintings, photographs of the ABC homes, videos of Hanford and Pearl harbor, of the Native Americans, and on issues related to the environment, science, and technology are showcased on a 10 foot by 10 foot screen!
