Not everything in the world costs dearly! Love music? Dance? Want a fun time outdoors with your folks? Well, look no further than the Tumbleweed Music Festival—a free festival of acoustic music and dance, scheduled to be held in Richland Washington Sept 1 & 2, 2007.

Nothing can possibly beat a live performance for a performer or even the audience. The TMF has played a major role in revolutionizing the way people relate to and experience music.  Many upcoming artists have also been able to make their presence felt on the music scene. Amateur musicians get a chance to hone their Tumbleweed Music Festivalmarketing, creative and performance skills. What band would not take up the offer to have live performance opportunities?

This Labor Day Weekend, Three Rivers Folklife is hosting its 11th annual Tumbleweed Music Festival and Songwriting Competition at the Howard Amon Park. Started as a non-profit in 1988, 3RFS provides the folk music community an opportunity to meet at the convergence of the Yakima, Snake, and Columbia rivers (hence the name 3RFS!). The first Tumbleweed, held in 1997, was a great success in itself!

Three Rivers Folklife Society (3RFS) has traditionally funded the Tumbleweed Music Festival and Songwriting Contest and this year promises to be as much or even more fun than ever! The song writing competition has been growing in popularity with every passing year and this year will have the theme of “Déjà vu.” This year’s festival held on Sept 1 & 2 is expected to showcase over a hundred acts. With both days filled with a lot of free music, it’s a great idea to bring along picnic rugs and to settle down in front of any of the four stages. Dance events will be held inside the air conditioned Community Hall. There’s even an open mike stage for those impromptu performances.

Kids are welcome— quite a considerable part of the day is dedicated to story telling and music sessions for the kids.  Starting at around eleven in the morning, admission is free for all! The evening events however are solely by prior admission. Those interested in performing or supplying other complementary services can download the necessary forms for the same from the website at 3rfs.org. TMF has a whole lot of tunes lined up this season—the choices vary from Celtic to Gospel! So get ready to have the time of your life at the historic riverfront Howard Amon Park in Richland this Labor Weekend.
