Pixel Ruler To Measure Blog Width | Page Content Area Measurement

Here's a cool free tool for your blogging toolbox. The pixel ruler! When needing to know the width of your content area, simply paste the following code in your blog entry then post to your blog, Squidoo page, HubPage, etc:

<p align="left"><img src="http://www.joelane.com/images/pixel-ruler.jpg" alt="Pixel Ruler" width="653" height="21" /></p>

You'll end up with a ruler like this:

Pixel Ruler

I'll use the pixel ruler to determine the width of my content area to let me know how wide an image can be inserted. Once you have figured out your dimensions, simply delete the code and you are ready to insert your image. You'll notice the ruler suggests this REW blog is 655 pixels wide. It's not! The REW blogs are about 575 pixels wide, however, images larger than 575 will be automatically resized to fit the REW blog width. The ruler works everywhere but the REW blogs! Having clarified that, here is a screenshot of the ruler in action on my Washington real estate blog:

You'll notice the pixel ruler 'cuts off' at 540 pixels. 540 pixels is the maximum image width for my Washington real estate blog entry, however, I would probably want an image for my blog entry to be no larger than 505 pixels to allow for margins.

There ya go, and of course, you are certainly welcome to host the ruler image on a site of your choosing!

Thanks for visiting Gregg.  Such a simple thing, but folks are making all sorts of money selling things that will do the same thing as inserting an image to measure an area's width.

Oh that is a great tool. I typically use use an image to check the pixel size. This should save me a little time and stress. Thanks for the tool.
