"Not Hired Because You're A Woman"
Posted Aug 30, 2008 @ 9:12 pm, Viewed by 384 Visitors, Read 402 Times.Hmm, that is what Colleen was told yesterday! I even gave this man this blog entry, and this Squidoo lens to read. Apparently, he read neither. Presumably, this potential client thought Colleen a pushover, lacking negotiating strength, and/or incompetent in some way in regards to client representation. Our client didn't know this about Colleen...
- When negotiating, Colleen has the most excellent 'poker face!' The client she represents may be in dire straights, desperate to sell or buy, but the other real estate agent would never know. Colleen represents her clients in a way only her clients and Colleen can appreciate, as 'the other side' never finds out what's in Colleen's hand until the negotiations are complete. In the past, and unfortunately for the opposing client, the other agent's willingness to share their client's confidential information only serves to strengthen Colleen's negotiating power.
- Colleen will never 'team up' with the other real estate agent to 'close the deal.' Obviously, both agents in a real estate transaction want the transaction to conclude, however, Colleen has never, and will never, side with the opposing real estate agent to close the deal. In other words, it's "our team, against your team," and Colleen will keep it that way.
- Colleen negotiates down to nickels and dimes. Often times in a $300,000. real estate transaction the $35.00 fee here, or the $50.00 fee there, gets lost in the shuffle as mere pennies to the transaction. Not with Colleen. Colleen negotiates every element of the transaction, no matter how minute the detail may be.
- Colleen's experience covers the better part of 25 years. When I met Colleen as a single lady, she worked for a property management company and was trusted with negotiating problem tenants, as well as new leases and rental agreements. Over the years, Colleen's negotiating experience has been very broad and wide. She has experience negotiating with city planning departments, school boards, builders and construction companies, tenants, real estate agents and their brokers, etc. Colleen is well grounded and polished as a negotiator.
- Colleen is the real estate agent of choice for the Tri Cities Washington United States Marine Corps Recruiting depot. Last time I checked, Marines are not wimpy! I would presume Marines would not hire a non-negotiating real estate agent!
- Colleen is well respected in the Tri-Cites real estate community. The other real estate agents in our community are willing to bend a little for someone as competent as Colleen. We've seen this time and time again.
There are many other facets to Colleen's ability to professionally represent a client, however, it's too bad our potential client missed out on having Colleen represent him. Perhaps, our client advocates hiring women as prescribed by our How To Hire A Woman lens!
