Existing Homes In St. John's Remain Cool Says CMHC

The seller's market has certainly ended.  Inventory has increased approximately 30 per cent and listings are taking longer to sell or expire (never sell during their contract period).

The St. John's real estate market boomed during 2008, driven mostly by optimism created by the NL Government budget surplus, the Hebron oilfield announcement, and the Vale Inco Hydromet in Long Harbour.  In light of this, speculating buyers purchased homes from all price ranges in fear of property values zooming sky high.  The market cooled after the third quarter peak in 2008 and remained cool during the first quarter of 2009 causing the seller’s market to weakened into balanced market by the end of 2008.

Prices, however, remain quite stable even during our current cooling…

Realtor Hosts A 72 Hours Open House In Gas Town Vancouver

I just stumbled upon a Realtor in Vancouver - Kye Grace on Twitter that just completed hosting a 72 hour open house.  Talk about being creative and thinking outside the box.  To add to his off-the-wall marketing he broadcasted and recorded the event live on the internet.  Dubbed “Kye TV”  Personally I think this was a great way to promote his million dollar 2700 sqft loft.  Awesome idea Kye!

An economic engine firing on all cylinders has driven residential real estate activity in Newfoundland and Labrador to new heights. Home sales in the first quarter of 2008 climbed just over 14 per cent, rising from 624 units—and a buyer’s market—one year ago, to 713 units, and a seller’s market. Average price followed suit, with year-to-date values rising close to 14 per cent to $156,953, up from $138,167 in 2007.
