Should you be concerned about the drought in NW Georiga?  According to local authorities  "measures are being taken to insure the drought will not result in a water shortage crises".   In the meantime we should all be "environmentally" concerned about our water supply (as well as other natural resources) as responsible consumers of this planet.  Here are ten top ways to conserve water - for more info go to www.ConserveWaterGeorgia.net.

  1. Wash only full loads of dishes and laundry.
  2. Take showers instead of baths--shorten your shower to 5 minutes and install a water-saving showerhead.
  3. Flush less often and replace older fixtures with water-saving commodes now available.
  4. Fix all leaky faucets and toilets.
  5. Never leave water running during tasks like tooth-brushing, dish-washing, cleaning, etc.
  6. Help your plants use less water by cutting back annuals and perrenials during dry spells.
  7. Put a rain barrel under your downspouts to collect water for plants and gardens.
  8. Prioritize plants--during drought give water only to irreplaceable trees & shrubs first.
  9. Do not fertilize plants when ample water is not available to water in.
  10. Use mulch. Cover from the trunk to the ends of branches with pine straw, bark chips or shredded hardwood mulch.
