North GA Biking - Blankets Creek Trail in Canton GA

Blankets Creek bike trail is located off of Sixes Rd in Canton GA near Lake Allatoona.  Expansion of the trail is under way and when completed there will be 14.5 miles of all levels of mountain biking.  The new 5 mile expansion will wind through the trees along Lake Allatoona and will be the most challenging trail of them all.  The completed venture will definitely make Blankets Creek Trail one of the top cyclist venues in the Southeast.  Traffic counts in 2007 showed that more than 135,000 vehicles visited the bike trail that year.  The next expansion will be a four-mile trail for intermediate and advanced cyclists that will be called the Van Michael Express.  Blankets Creek Trail is a 358 acre parcel that borders Lake Allatoona and is located in South Cherokee County.  It is easily accessed by interstate 575 and is approx 45 minutes north of Atlanta.  Co-operation between  the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has kept this site well-maintained and continually expanding.
